![]() It appeared that the person who originally throw the flag on stage wanted it back, the person who now had the flag wouldn’t give it back. After wearing the flag, the singer gave the flag to someone in the front of the crowd. This is all speculation as to what occurred but from my point of view this is what I believe occurred. Incidental that flag would cause some drama among a group of fans near the front of the stage. At one point a Venezuelan flag would be thrown on stage which the lead singer proudly wore for a few songs. The guitarists swayed to the beats while the lead singer charmed the heck out of the crowd. As a result of this, all of their songs effortlessly merged into one long dance track that captivated the audience to no end. These brief introduction snippets made their music sound more modern as they combined English influences to their Latin beats. Their unique sound has a hypnotic effect that’s irresistible to the ear.Ī few of their songs featured sample introductions of popular English songs such as Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music”. ![]() The best way to describe their music is a fusion of acid jazz, disco, and funk mixed with Latin rhythms and beats. One aspect of the band that’s difficult to pinpoint is the genre their music should be categorized in. From the start the band threw a nonstop dance party which finally had everyone in the room dancing! This Venezuela band have been together for 26 years, but show no signs of stopping anytime soon. She’s one the reason as to why I love this band, and look forward to their next performance I can attend.Īt 9:45 pm Los Amigos made their grand appearance to the cheers of all. The band members of Los Amigos are Julio Briceño (“Chulius” vocals), Mauricio Arcas (“Maurimix” congas), José Rafael Torres (“Catire” bass), and Juan Manuel Roura (“Mamel” drums). This bland audience wouldn’t deter La Misa Negra in throwing an incredible 40 minute performance. Lead singer Diana Trujillo is a phenomenal singer that’s marvelous to see live. If some in the audience were willing to dance, the mood would have improved drastically. It became disheartening to view due to the blah atmosphere the audience were creating for themselves. No matter what the band did, the audience’s energy constantly remained low. Though the band were constantly on their feet dancing to their own beat, the audience weren’t. One of the guitarists announced that this evening happened to be his mother’s birthday all participated in wishing her a happy birthday. Getting the audience to dance to their infectious beats are a common staple of their live shows that I’ve noticed. Each proved how beautifully they can perform with their respectful instruments. When seeing La Misa Negra, one should prepare for a lively, dancing performance that’ll make you dance to the beat.Įvery member shined in the spotlight with their talented solos. I’m rooting for them to experience the similar success that bands Las Cafeteras, Chicano Batman, and La Santa Cecilia have recently been undergoing. Though the bands only been around for six years, I can predict that they’ll have a bright future ahead of them. Through the night the band were electrifying full of energy that’s difficult to match. The talented members of the band consist of Marco Polo Santiago (guitar, accordion), Diana Trujillo (lead vocals), Justin Chin (tenor sax, baritone sax), Morgan Nilsen (clarinet), Shane Cox (trumpet, trombone), Erich Huffaker (upright bass), Craig Miller (drums, percussion), and Elena de Troya (percussion). I’ve previously seen the band months earlier when they opened for Mon Laferte at the same venue. Well he did expose me to this band which I’ll forever be grateful for.Īfter dealing with brutal traffic, I made it on time to see La Misa Negra once again. Alas, he never showed up but it would have been nice to catch up with him. As I entered the venue, part of me hoped he would make an appearance. ![]() Living near Amoeba, he’d occasionally stop by to buy all the albums of theirs in stock. My exposure of the band came through a former friend who had a strong obsession with them. The band normally performs at fly on the wall Los Angeles venues, so this opportunity couldn’t slip me by. Couldn’t resist the opportunity to scratch the band off my buck list. ![]() Noticing they were performing in Anaheim, I bought my ticket a month well in advance. Los Amigos Invisibles are currently on tour promoting the release of their latest album El Paradise.
